Luke Donald confirms European qualification system for 2025 Ryder Cup

New points system, six automatic tickets and six captain’s picks

MADRID, 6 Ago. (EUROPA PRESS) –

European Ryder Cup captain Luke Donald announced on Tuesday the qualification and selection process for the 2025 Ryder Cup, which will be held in the United States, with a new points system and again six players under his decision.

Europe will defend the title won in Rome in 2023 in an edition that is expected to be heated in Bethpage, New York. The qualification based on merits will be measured through a single list of points that players can add with tournaments of the ‘Grand Slam’, the PGA and the DP World Tour, but not of the LIV Golf.

The qualification process, as announced on the official Ryder Cup website, will begin this September at the Betfred British Masters and will end on August 24 next year. The new list of points replaces the previous one via the world ranking and the Race to Dubai, the European Order of Merit.

In addition, players must be members of the DP World Tour, which means that, among others, Spaniard Jon Rahm cannot give up the European circuit despite playing in the Saudi Arabian one. On the other hand, Donald will have six ‘wildcards’, the captain’s choices.
