MADRID, 4 Apr. (SportsFinding) –
The Netherlands coach, Louis van Gaal, announced this Sunday that he has prostate cancer for which he is being treated, until now without the knowledge of his players.
The 70-year-old Dutch coach explained his situation during a television program in his country, ‘Humberto’. “I didn’t want to tell the players because it could influence their game. You won’t die of prostate cancer, but I have a pretty aggressive form. There are a lot of things to manage,” he said.
The coach, who led Barça in two stages between 1997 and 2003, explained that he was secretly going to the hospital so that his players, who these two weeks of hiatus directed them in the friendly against Denmark and Germany, did not know of his illness.
“I went to the hospital at night, without my players knowing until now and I entered the hospital through a back door. That it has not come to light says enough about my environment,” added a Van Gaal who said he had 25 sessions of radiotherapy.
