Before kicking off the last match of the fifth round, the draw for the quarter-finals of the world’s oldest club competition was held on Thursday night. Liverpool and Chelsea will visit a field of the English second category in the next instance of the FA Cup. Jürgen Klopp’s men will face Nottingham Forest or Huddersfield Town. The two Championship teams will meet on Monday to determine who hosts Anfield. Forest have already knocked out two Premier League teams to reach the quarter-finals: Arsenal and Leicester City.
Chelsea’s rival, who will also play away from home, recently produced two surprising results against Manchester United and Tottenham. Manchester City, meanwhile, will visit Southampton. On his last visit to St Mary’s, in January, Aymeric Laporte rescued a point for Pep Guardiola’s men.
Finally Crystal Palace will host Everton, 17th in the Premier League or Boreham Wood, the lower category team, still alive in the competition. For the latter to happen, those in the fifth division, semi-professional, must win on Thursday at Goodison Park. Only one non-professional team has made it this far in the FA Cup since 1926, Lincoln City in 2016-17. The quarterfinals will be played the weekend of Friday, March 18 to Monday, March 21.
