Live updates on the NYC Marathon 2023: the latest news as athletes take over the streets of New York City

The New York City Marathon was the last of the six Marathon Majors in 2023. Now, the best runners are getting ready for the 2024 Olympic Summer Games in Paris.

With a course record time of 2:04:58, Tamirat Tola of Ethiopia won the men’s race. Hellen Obiri of Kenya won the women’s race in a time of 2:27:23. Check out the top winners’ scores from Sunday, November 5 while they come in.

At mile 18, Vanessa Martin stopped running to give her lover Joia Aliperti the best surprise ever. They’ve been together over five years or met at an exercise class in Long Island City.

“That was crazy.” When she got down on one knee in the street, Aliperti said, “I fell and dropped my phone. I shook for around 30 minutes after that.”

“I figured there was only one day—the best day to New York City or the city we as a species live and love—to do it,” he said.

From upstate New York, an apple farmer family came to support Doug Grout, whose work is running for office with the Brooklyn Apple Association. Doug is their husband and dad.

“He just thought it was important to bring everyone together along with really stand up for farming,” Amanda Boyd, a spectator, said.

“I think he knows that’s his finish line, where his entire family is,” Thomas Grout, 11, said.

The end is worth it because they are tired but proud of what they did. “This is my fourth.” Doug Grout said, “I got the bug when I ran the first time with my mom in 2019.”

Many people think that the New York City Marathon is the most anticipated sports event of the year in the city. It is the biggest and most dangerous race in the world.

About 50,000 people are expected to start the 2023 TCS New York City Half from Staten Island and run through all five boroughs of the city. The race starts on Sunday at 8 a.m.

Beginning at the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge, the race ends at the corner of Central Park West Drive as well as 67th Street.

A lot of streets will be closed, some of them permanently and some temporarily. Below is a route map and a full list of what is closed.

There were 47,839 people who finished the run last year. The New York Road Runners said that the race took 4 hours, 50 minutes, or 26 seconds on average.

This weekend, there will be no rain, which is a rare treat for both marathon runners and onlookers. This weekend’s prediction is the first one without rain in eight weekends in a row.

In the morning, it will be in the low 50s, and in the afternoon, it will be in the low 60s. There will be a lot of sun through the clouds.

Along the 26.2-mile course, race fans can see it from almost anywhere, except for the first few miles. There are places to watch the run from mile 3 with mile 26.

People have been looking forward to the New York City Marathon for a long time, and it’s finally here!

This famous marathon takes place every year with the first Sunday of November. The 52nd version will start on November 5, 2023.

More than 50,000 people are scheduled to take part, which means the event will be exciting, competitive, and full of moving performances.
