Laura Barquero and Marco Zandron finish ninth in the European Figure Skating

MADRID, 13 One. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Spaniards Laura Barquero and Marco Zandron finished this Thursday in ninth position in the pairs category of the European Figure Skating Championships that are being held until Sunday in Tallinn.

The result for both is positive in what was their first major international competition and a prelude to their historic debut at the Olympic Games in Beijing next February, although they could not confirm the expectations created after their performance on Wednesday in the Short Program.

The one from Madrid and the one from Bolzano had added the eighth best score (60.65) and were just over two points from fourth position, an ambitious and the most real aspiration, since higher up were the almost unattainable Russian skaters who finished taking the podium with the current world champions, Anastasia Mishina and Aleksandr Galliamov, keeping the gold.

However, Barquero and Zandron were unable to complete their best Long Program and their 107.75 points, far from the 124.66 they achieved last October in Finland, were the eighth best mark, which finally cost them one place to finish ninth with 168.40, although practically even with the German couple (168.75) and the Italian (168.90).

This Friday will be the turn of Tomàs Guarino in the individual final, and the Ice Dance modality will also begin where the Spanish couples Olivia Smart and Adrià Díaz, and Sara Hurtado and Kirill Khaliavin play who will represent Spain in Beijing 2022, with advantage for now for the first.
