Laporta: investiture under minimums

Joan Laporta has not yet been officially invested as president of FC Barcelona and is already facing the first major crisis of his mandate. And not precisely in the sports area, where the team is showing more signs of recovery every day, despite the premature elimination in the Champions League, but within the team that Laporta's candidacy was part of. The sudden announcement of the goodbye of one of the heavyweights of his future board, Jaume Giró, who was to be the head of the economic area, has left Laporta with a different foot, both when presenting the endorsement of 124, 6 million that LaLiga obliges non-anonymous companies, corresponding to 15% of the season's budget, as in the investiture: the brand-new president will have the minimum number of directors established in the club's Statutes, a total of fourteen.

This Sunday, according to sources around the president, The signature of the guarantee will be formalized through the Banc de Sabadell and the bank guarantee will be presented to LaLiga on Monday so that it can give the approval and be able to carry out the investiture.

The inauguration is scheduled for Wednesday afternoon. It should be remembered that the new president has ten calendar days to make the investiture official after the elections, so Wednesday March 17 is the last day contemplated in the Statutes.

Laporta, who will be invested as the 42nd president in the club's history, will have to face an internal crisis of unforeseeable consequences after the departure of one of his strong men from the board, Jaume Giró. In fact, the first obstacle will be in the configuration of the new directive, since it will have to look for an economic vice president against the clock. It currently has only 14 members on the board, the minimum number required by the Bylaws, which allow up to a total of 21 officers.

After the resignation of Giró, the absolute leading role falls on the number two, the sports vice president, Rafa Yuste, who had already been part of previous Laporta boards, as well as four other directors of the current board of directors: Josep Cubells, Elena Fort, Alfonso Castro and Josep Ignasi Macià. The list of new directors is completed: Josep Maria Albert, Xavier Barbany, Miguel Camps, Alfonso Escudero, Juli Guiu, Jordi Llauradó, Aureli Mas, Xavier Puig and Joan Solé.
