Chelsea coach Frank Lampard asked on Monday that “do not compare Timo Werner with Fernando Torres.” The 'blue' team coach assured that the German striker must have the best environment to progress at the London club.
Werner, who signed for Chelsea from Leipzig last summer for around € 50m, has not scored in his last 10 Premier League games. Torres also had a few after arriving from Liverpool in 2011 and Lampard said he will work with Werner, who is struggling to win in confidence after a brilliant start to the season.
“I'm not comparing him to anyone,” Lampard told reporters ahead of Tuesday's game at Leicester, 3rd. “Everyone is different, Torres had a bad time here but he won the Champions League.”
Lampard said: “All we have to do is create the best environment to bring out the best in Timo. You have to repeat, keep working and he needs to keep his head down and focused, I need to give him positivity. When you are an elite player, as Timo has shown him to be, it is when all eyes are on you and everything is magnified ”.
Chelsea rose to seventh place in the Premier League thanks to their win at home to Fulham (0-1) and Lampard's team will look to build on the result against Brendan Rodgers' Leicester, whom the English coach considers a title contender . “They're on it for sure, from the way they're playing, the results they're getting and their position on the table, it's clear,” Lampard said.
N'Golo Kanté will miss the game because he has not recovered from a tendon problem, but Andreas Christensen is available to face Chelsea.
