Krejcikova and Mertens lift the Ostrava and Monastir titles

The Czech tennis player Barbora Krejcikova and the Belgian Elise Mertens conquered this Sunday the WTA tournaments in Ostrava (Czech Republic) and Monastir (Tunisia), beating the Polish Iga Swiatek (5-7, 7-6(4), 6-3 ) and France’s Alizé Cornet (6-2, 6-0).

Krejcikova beat the world number one in a tight final to clinch her fifth career title, the second in the last two weeks. The Czech triumphed at home with a spectacular comeback after three hours, over a Swiatek who lost the second final of 12, and her first in three years.

Meanwhile, Mertens became the first champion of the Monastir tournament, with a solid victory over Cornet that sealed winning the last 11 games in a row. The Belgian lifted her first title of 2022 and the seventh of her career.
