Kjaer, goodbye to the season

Big blow for him Milan: Simon Kjaer, captain of Denmark and one of the key pieces of Stefano Pioli’s team, will miss the remainder of the season. Milan himself confirmed that the defender will be out for six months after being subjected to an intervention yesterday to rebuild him the anterior cruciate ligament and reinsert the medial collateral ligament of the left knee.

The operation was successful, but Kjaer will no longer be able to play this course again. The Danish defender, who saved Christian Eriksen’s life at the European Championship on June 12 when he suffered a cardiac arrest in the first-round match against Finland, was injured in the first minute of last Wednesday’s match against Genoa.

Milan beat Genoa 3-0 and remains 2nd in Serie A, just one point behind leaders Napoli. The injury of the former Sevilla player Kjaer (32 years old) represents a great setback for Pioli, coach of the red-black team, since the captain of Denmark is one of his great references in defense. The bad news comes in a season in which Milan is fighting for the ‘scudetto’. This Saturday, Milan host Salernitana, Napoli host Atalanta and Roma host Inter.
