Kadarius Toney said that the team “made up” his injury, but Chiefs leader Andy Reid says that’s not true.
The Kansas City Chiefs said on Saturday that Kadarius Toney hurt his hip and would not play for the AFC championship game on Sunday against the Baltimore Ravens. Reid said on Monday, “That part wasn’t made up at all; he was on the injury report.”
Toney responded on Instagram Live with a short video in which he said the Chiefs lied regarding his injury. Toney said on Sunday, “Man, that s*** crap.” “I’m fine.
Not any of that nonsense. Put that s*** away. On God, don’t hurt. Not at all. It goes from the hip to the ankle and this way to that.”
After the Chiefs beat the Ravens in the final AFC championship game on Sunday, head coach Andy Reid talked about Toney’s claim.
The NBA has fined teams in the past for giving false information about injuries, so that accusation could have had serious effects on both Reid as well as the team.
After welcoming the birth of his first child, a daughter, on Saturday, the troubled receiver should be thrilled, right? Instead, he’s criticizing the Chiefs on YouTube.
Yes, it was the same Kansas City squad that helped him through a tough season in 2023. Whether it was the first game of the season when he dropped several passes against the Lions of Detroit or when he deleted all of his social media followers after getting a lot of bad feedback about that game.
Patrick Mahomes, the quarterback, and Reid were always there for Toney, even after his offsides penalty canceled out the go-ahead TD for Kansas City in a December loss to the Buffalo Bills.
But matters started to fall apart when Toney wouldn’t take responsibility, and he didn’t get better on the field either. Toney had also never played within a game before.
Even more so after Mahomes’ fifth and final missed pass led to the New England Patriots picking him off in Week 15. It was the third time that Toney blocked a pass, and the defense picked it off.
The last time Toney played was in Week 15 toward the New England Patriots, when he deflected a pass through a defender to score an interception. This was the second occasion this season that he did this.
before Sunday’s AFC Championship Game, the Chiefs said Toney wouldn’t play because he was hurt and had personal matters to attend to. On Saturday, Toney’s partner gave birth to their first child, a daughter.
Reid said he knew about Toney’s post but hadn’t seen it himself. According to Reid, Toney had been “working through some things” on Monday.
He also said that Toney would be helping the Chiefs when they start practicing on Thursday over Super Bowl LVIII toward the San Francisco 49ers.
The NFL can fine teams and coaches who report injuries that aren’t true or are meant to mislead. Toney was supposed to do a lot for the Chiefs this season, but he only has 27 catches to 169 yards as well as a touchdown.
Arthur Smith, the coach of the Atlanta Falcons at the time, was fined $25,000 and the team was fined $75,000 in December for not telling the media that quarterback Bijan Robinson was sick and couldn’t play in a game toward Tampa Bay earlier in the season.
He was very important in the Super Bowl win across the Philadelphia Eagles last year. In the fourth quarter, he caught a touchdown and returned a punt 65 yards to set in another touchdown.
The Kansas City Chiefs were criticized after Kadarius Toney, their wide receiver, went on Instagram Live and said that the team was lying about his hip injury.
He did this in a rude rant that was broadcast from an IG account that people thought was his own on Sunday morning.
The matter was brought up by reporters on Monday during a Zoom meeting with Kansas City coach Andy Reid.
The meeting took place after his team beat the Baltimore Ravens 17–10 in the AFC champion game.
He was hurt because he was on the injury report. That part is not made up in any way. His mind has been on some things, but he’ll be back there, Reid said.
Reid said that Toney would be back in practice when the team gets ready for Super Bowl LVIII toward the San Francisco 49ers.
Toney was ruled out on Saturday afternoon because of a hip injury and a personal matter that was first reported as the birth of his child.
