Juventus play without an Italian defender or goalkeeper for the first time in their history

The starting eleven that Andrea Pirlo raised against Ferencvaros had a peculiarity never seen in the 123 years of Juventus history. According to Tuttosport, for the first time the transalpine team did not have a goalkeeper or defender of Italian nationality.

Juve had never before gone out without an Italian in the rear. The rear formed by Cuadrado, Danilo, De Ligt and Alex Sandro and the fact that Szczesny defended the ‘bianconera’ goal left the first two lines of the ‘vecchia signora’ without Italian representation.

In fact, Juve did jump onto the pitch with an Italian, Federico Bernardeschi, but the international ‘azzurro’ did not form in defense, thus breaking a ‘tradition’ of 123 years.
