Justice agrees with LaLiga: there will be football on Monday and Friday

The conflict over the Monday and Friday game between LaLiga and the RFEF turns upside down again. The Provincial Court has ruled in favor of the clubs and gives permission to play both days of the week. A situation that was already taking place after the mediation of the Higher Sports Council last season, although with some limitations.

The timetables case already has a new sentence. The Provincial Court gives the green light to continue playing on Mondays and Fridays as Tebas claimed. What's more, they point out that the behavior of the RFEF in this regard is “an act of unfair competition” and condemns them to “cease the aforementioned conducts”, since they understand that the Federation wants to obtain an economic benefit. Moreover, the clubs approved not to give more money to the RFEF to be able to play on those days, since they consider that they are within their rights and it is beneficial for the commercial exploitation of audiovisual rights.

In this way, the next season may start on Friday, August 13, since the date approved to start was the weekend of the 15th. Now, the RFEF can appeal this sentence in the same court and for this it has a twenty-day term. .

The 'Horarios Case' is an old conflict between Rubiales and Tebas that had its origin in the summer of 2019. Since then, both institutions have seen each other on numerous occasions in court. The Commercial Court number 2 of Madrid supported the Federation to prevent games from being played on those days of the week. It was in October 2020 when the Higher Sports Council had to mediate between the two reaching a new agreement. Permission would be given to play every Friday and only 20 Mondays per season. Of course, the strip of Saturdays and Sundays would be kept until 2:00 p.m. to broadcast only women's football matches and the rest of non-professional categories.
