Julio Velázquez will take over the bottom of the Portuguese league

Julio Velázquez is already in Madeira to sign a contract until June 2022 with Marítimo, that at the moment is the bottom of the Portuguese league. This will be the third experience of the Salamanca coach in Portugal tafter having directed Os Belenenses and Vitória Setúbal, club that he left in July 2020.

The agreement is total between the parties, and the Spanish coach, according to the Portuguese press, will start working with the team this Thursday. El Marítimo disputes this Friday a tense derby against Nacional, since the two teams are only three points apart.

The presence of Velázquez on the Marítimo bench for the derby against Nacional due to bureaucratic issues is not yet assured, but he will be able to start directing the team from this Thursday. Velázquez will be Marítimo's third coach this season after Lito Vidigal and Milton Mendes.
