The man from Salamanca will lead the Basque team until the end of the season after the dismissal of Mendilibar
MADRID, 5 Apr. (SportsFinding) –
The Spanish coach Julio Velázquez has been appointed as the new coach of Deportivo Alavés until the end of this season, after the dismissal on Monday of José Luis Mendilibar, as reported by the club in a statement on Tuesday.
“Julio Velázquez will be the new coach of Deportivo Alavés until the end of this season. After reaching an agreement with the team from Vitoria, the man from Salamanca takes on the challenge of remaining with eight games to go until the end of the season,” announced the basque team.
From the club from Vitoria, they highlighted his “extensive experience” on the bench in Spain, Italy or Portugal, directing teams such as Villarreal, Real Murcia or Real Betis. His jump to the international level occurred in the 2015-2016 season, at the hands of Os Belenenses and, after fulfilling the objective, he signed for Alcorcón to complete his longest period in the same club, with 82 games.
After passing through Udinese, he returned to Portugal to manage Vitória Setúbal and, later, save CS Marítimo after picking them up as bottom team.
“Julio Velázquez now lands in Vitoria-Gasteiz with the same purpose: to close the current difference of six points with respect to permanence and keep the club from Paseo de Cervantes in the First Division for one more season. At Deportivo Alavés we trust in the experience of Velázquez and we wish him the best of luck for this final stretch of the season,” concluded the club’s statement.
