MADRID, 17 Jun. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Spanish coach Juanma Lillo, who worked to date as Pep Guardiola’s assistant at Manchester City, has become Al-Sadd’s new coach for the 2022-23 season this Friday, as announced by the Qatari club.
“Official. Juan Manuel Lillo will be the first coach of Al-Sadd from the 2022-23 season. He will arrive in Qatar on Sunday before being presented at a press conference later,” the entity said in a statement on Friday.
Lillo, 56, takes over from fellow Spaniard Javi Gracia in what will be a new solo experience. The last one, before accepting Guardiola’s proposal, was in China, at the helm of Qingdao Huanghai during the 2019-20 season.
In Spanish football, Lillo has managed Mirandés, Tenerife, Oviedo, Salamanca, Zaragoza, Real Sociedad and Almería, among other clubs. His last experience in Spain was with the Andalusian team, 12 seasons ago.
