The ex-husband of former tennis player Arantxa Sánchez Vicario, Joseph Santacanahas requested to annul his sentence of three years and three months in prison for a crime of confiscation of assets by hiding his assets to avoid paying the Bank of Luxembourg a debt of 7.5 million euros.

Santacana's defense considers that “the facts declared proven by the appealed sentence are manifestly contradictory with the arguments made to declare them proven” and also sees his right to the presumption of innocence violated.
In this sense, he affirms that the evidence against him is insufficient and adds that a mitigating circumstance should have been computed for undue delays given that “the overall duration of the criminal procedure has been practically eight years.”
