SD Eibar announced this Wednesday the hiring of the Gipuzkoan coach Joseba Etxeberria as its new coach for next season, after having led CD Mirandés during the last two seasons in LaLiga SmartBank.
Etxeberria, born on September 5, 1977 in Elgoibar, had previously coached Bilbao Athletic (2019/20 and 2020/21), Tenerife, Amorebieta, Basconia, he was second to Ernesto Valverde at Athletic Club in the 2015/16 campaign and directed also to different teams from the Athletic Club youth academy.
“At the head of Mirandés, Etxeberria has comfortably achieved his main task: permanence. This season the jabato team has finished in 16th position, eight points above relegation. The previous season finished fourteenth, nine points above relegation, displaying an attractive and showy game with a very young squad”, Eibar said.
The press release has specified that Etxeberria will join the Eibar entity together with Jorge Pérez, as assistant coach, and Luis Prieto, a former Eibar player, now as physical trainer. “In the next few days the composition of the rest of the coaching staff will be announced,” the note concluded.
