The Galician won in Cózar and defended his title in the MXGP
MADRID, 29 Sep. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Spanish rider Jorge Prado successfully defended his World title and became two-time MXGP champion, by winning this Sunday in the last event, the MXGP Castilla la Mancha GP.
Prado signed his comeback, in a season from less to more, to win the fourth World Cup of his career and defend his top category title. In front of his fans in Cózar, the local idol won the qualifying round on Saturday and could settle for a defensive race marking Tim Gajser.
However, the Spaniard achieved the holeshot and set a frenetic pace in the first laps until the Slovenian almost threw in the towel. Prado won ahead of Gajser and Jeffrey Herlings, but he was penalized three positions for having taken advantage of an off-track.
With mathematics on his side, Prado once again started in the lead in the last round of the championship. When the man from Lugo was leading ahead of Herlings, he had a scare that the Dutchman took advantage of to take the lead. After the near fall, Prado switched to plan B, allowing Febvre and Gajser to overtake him and simply following in the Slovenian’s wake to secure the title and victory in the Grand Prix.
“It is the happiest day of my life. The ones that gave me the other titles were also happy, but this one, in front of my fans, is very different. I have not stopped hearing at any time the encouragement of the fans and that warmth It gives one more point of speed and confidence. I can’t forget all of them and neither can I forget the entire team, family and people who have been behind me for so many years, supporting me in every race,” said Prado.
