Jordan Diaz nominated for best European athlete of the year

Spaniard Jordan Díaz was nominated this Friday by the European Athletics Federation for ‘best European athlete of the year’, after a glittering season in the triple jump in which he won Olympic gold in Paris 2024.

Díaz, who was also European champion and is the world leader of the year, the second European of all time, with 18.18 metres, is the only Spaniard on the list of nominees. The winners will be announced on 26 October at the gala in Skopje.

The Cuban-born athlete will face Swedish pole vaulter Armand Duplantis, Lithuanian discus thrower Mykolas Alekna, Italian shot putter Leonardo Fabbri, Norwegian middle distance runner Jakob Ingebrigtsen, British sprinter Matthew Hudson-Smith, Norwegian decathlete Markus Rooth, Italian high jumper Gianmarco Tamberi, Greek long jumper Miltiadis Tentoglou and Norwegian hurdler Karsten Warholm.
