Jonas Vingegaard will ride La Vuelta a España 2023

MADRID, 23 Jul. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Danish cyclist Jonas Vingegaard (Jumbo-Visma) has announced this Sunday that he will run the next edition of La Vuelta a España, which will start on August 26 from Barcelona and end on September 17 in Madrid, after having been crowned for the second time as Tour de France champion.

Vingegaard, who in principle was not going to be included in the formation of his team for La Vuelta, will finally participate together with the Slovenian Primoz Roglic. Sources from Jumbo-Visma themselves have confirmed the news and, unless otherwise specified in the coming weeks, both Vingegaard and Roglic will be co-leaders in search of the title in another ‘big one’.

Thus, it will be the first time since 2017 that the current winners of the Giro d’Italia and the Tour de France will participate in the Spanish round that same year. The addition of Vingegaard to the La Vuelta 2023 peloton will raise his demanding level even more, since the Belgian Remco Evenepoel (Soudal Quick-Step) recently confirmed his presence.

Evenepoel, 23, will defend the red jersey as current champion of La Vuelta. The British Geraint Thomas (INEOS Grenadiers) and the Spanish Juan Ayuso (UAE Team Emirates), who was third in the last edition, will also compete. The also Spanish Enric Mas (Movistar Team), second in 2022, will ride La Vuelta as long as he recovers from the hard fall that left him out of the Tour at the first change.
