Jenson Button to start three NASCAR Cup races

MADRID, 10 Mar. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The British driver Jenson Button will contest three NASCAR Cup races this season, the 2009 Formula 1 world champion confirmed this Friday, who will debut on the Circuit of the Americas and will later run on the Chicago urban circuit and in Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

Button will drive the number 15 Mobil 1 Ford Mustang for Rick Ware Racing, with Stewart-Haas Racing assisting in marketing and promotional efforts. The Englishman is also one of the three main drivers who will drive the NASCAR Garage 56, along with Jimmie Johnson and Mike Rockenfeller, in the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 2023.

Button, which will be sponsored by Mobil 1, has achieved 15 victories during his 17 seasons in Formula 1, from which he retired in 2016, and won the 2009 championship in a season in which he won six races.

“Racing a NASCAR car is very different to what I’m used to. It’s a lot heavier and with a lot less power and basically no downforce. It has a sequential gearbox where you have to hit the throttle, so that there are many things to learn in a very short time”, he highlighted.

Despite everything, he was “excited” with the “new challenge”. “When I jump into something, I’m 100 per cent. I’m not doing it just for fun; I want to be competitive, and I know that to be competitive, it will take a little bit of time. That’s why running these three races is good this season.” continuous.
