MADRID, 21 Jul. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The forward of the Spanish team Jenni Hermoso highlighted the victory against Costa Rica in the World Cup debut this Friday in a match in which they had “a lot of possession and chances”, but in which they were not entirely correct in the definition, an aspect in which they must improve because they must “be demanding” with themselves.
“We played a game with a lot of possession and many chances, and to start by winning the first game 3-0 is important. We can always put a few buts. We have to be demanding with ourselves, and today we had a lot of possession and many scoring chances, we could have scored more goals,” Jenni Hermoso commented after the game in statements to RTVE.
The Madrid native also played against Costa Rica in the 2015 World Cup (1-1) and, eight years later, she considers that Spain “has changed quite a bit both physically and mentally” and that it has also been working “very well” in recent years.
“Whoever has more confidence takes the ball and throws it. I have caught it, I have thrown it and I have missed it, in the end whoever throws it fails. In the end I am happy because we have won, which was the important thing, and now I am already thinking about the next game”, confessed the Mexican Pachuca soccer player about the missed penalty in the match.
As for Zambia, the next rival, the forward believes that it will be a “different” game since they have players who are “one of the fastest in the world” and who can create “a lot of danger in transitions”. “We have to work defensively in training to see how we can stop them,” she warned.
Finally, Jenni Hermoso confessed that she felt more comfortable “between the lines”, since it is the situation in the game where she “enjoys the most” and can give that last pass that she likes so much, but she made it clear that the most important thing for her is to “continue playing and continue adding minutes”.
