Javi Calleja, Levante’s new coach

MADRID, 16 Oct. (EUROPA PRESS) –

Levante UD announced this Sunday the hiring of Javier Calleja as the new coach until June 2024, after the dismissal of Mehdi Nafti earlier this week.

“Levante UD and Javier Calleja have reached an agreement for the Madrid coach to become the Levante team’s new coach until June 2024,” the Granota team said in an official statement.

Calleja resumes his activity on the Spanish bench this time in LaLiga SmartBank, after his last experience at Deportivo Alavés, which he held in the First Division last year.

The Madrid coach began his career as a coach at Villarreal, where he led teams from the different categories of the yellow entity until taking the reins of the first team in the 2017/2018 season. Calleja directed Levante’s neighbor for two stages, achieving qualification for the Europa League on both occasions.

In the month of April of last year, he joined Deportivo Alavés. “The new coach of Levante UD joins the Orriols entity accompanied by the second coach Quique Álvarez, the physical trainer José Romero, the goalkeeping coach Jesús Unanua and the analyst Luismi Loro”, says Levante.

The Barça team beat Mirandés during the week, with sports director Felipe Miñambres on the bench and this Sunday beat Leganés (2-1), with which Calleja takes the team in the middle of the table with 16 points.
