Iyana Martín, MVP of the Under-19 World Cup in Madrid

The base of the Spanish Under-19 women’s team Iyana Martín was chosen MVP of the Under-19 World Cup held in Madrid, where Spain touched gold this Sunday in the final against the United States.

Martín, who is 17 years old, averaged 16.1 points, 3.3 assists and 2.7 rebounds in the World Cup, key in Spain’s great performance, which ended with the third silver medal in the national team’s list in this category.

The Spanish point guard entered the ‘best five’ of the World Cup as MVP and best point guard. Iyana already had in her showcases the 2022 Under-16 European Championship MVP trophy, the 2022 Under-17 World Cup quintet and the 2023 Under-18 European Championship.

The Asturian was especially decisive in the matches with 18 points against Lithuania, 24 against Canada in the semifinals and 19 points, 5 rebounds and 3 assists in the final against the United States.

In the Madrid World Cup quintet, Martín shared a team with the Americans Hannah Hidalgoy and Joyce Edwards, the French Leila Lacan and the Canadian Toby Fournier.
