Villarreal midfielder Francis Coquelin assured this Wednesday that he has lived a few hard months for the injury he has suffered but he is already strong enough to help the team in the final stretch of the season.
Coquelin had been out of the team since month of November due to tendon injury Achilles and after conservative treatment he underwent surgery on January 4.
“It was a complicated period, but now I am happy to play again and to the green. Injuries are part of football, I try not to, but it’s been a bad two years. There is no need to obsess, I work to return the best and I am lucky to recover quickly. A nice end to the season is coming and I want to help”, he said at a press conference.
The French soccer player also wanted to send a message of support to Albert Moreno, who is going through a bad time due to the two cruciate ligament injuries in both knees in two years.
“It’s very hard. Now he’s better, he’s waiting for the operation, and we’re here to help him. It is a hard blow for him and for the team. He was in a great moment and it is a stick to lose him. But he’s encouraged and I’m sure he’ll come back stronger,” he said.
Also, he pointed out that Gerard Moreno he is working “hard” on his recovery and that he hopes he will return soon as he considers him a vital player for the team.
Regarding the situation of the team, Coquelin said that in the first part of the season they didn’t get the points they expected, but think the second half is good. “I think that this reaction may have made us recover what was lost. We are going to see what happens in the League and in the Champions League,” he added.
“Fourth place in the league is complicated, but we are going to fight to be with them. Atlético and Barcelona are on a good run, but we have only lost in Pamplona, we are going to fight to be as high as possible”, he indicated.
In that sense, he pointed out that although the League is very competitive, Villarreal must play in Europe and that is the objective they have, although he insisted that they must go “match by match” and with the idea of adding to be able to reach a European place.
Despite acknowledging the transcendence of the party of Champions League next Wednesday against Juventus, the French player believes that they should focus on this weekend’s league match against Celta, since “the League is what can make us play these games,” he recalled.
“We must keep in mind that Celta is a complicated rival, who plays very well, has a good coach and a positive dynamic. Last year they beat us and they have a lot of quality, so the team will be focused to get the points against Celta and we’ll see what happens in Turin”, he concluded.
