Despite renewing a few weeks ago Carmen Fernandez has had to abandon the discipline of Albacete Foundation (Second Women's Division) since she cannot combine her medical studies with soccer. In an interview with 'As', the Albacete player talks about her situation.
P. You renewed with the Albacete Foundation a few weeks ago, but you have finally decided to leave football …
R. I spent a long time to make the decision, finally I wanted to continue at the club, I was excited, but at the beginning of the school year, the practices at the Hospital are in the mornings and I am forced to have to leave football because the practices coincide with me. with the team training because it is impossible to combine both.
Have they not been able to give you a solution from the University?
I have spoken with people from the University of Castilla-La Mancha and the Faculty of Medicine to find some way to do the internships in the afternoon, but they told me it was not possible.
It will have been a difficult decision to make …
It has been very difficult because I was very excited to continue playing football this season and in the end I was forced to make this decision because I could not combine studies and football.
How do you handle this situation?
Well not very well, this is my fourth year studying medicine but I wanted to continue playing soccer. Now with the issue of the coronavirus, the situation is more complicated but we have to continue, there is no other.
What have your former colleagues told you?
They have told me that it is a shame for not being able to be together one more year but whenever I can I will go to see their matches and cheer them on. Hopefully this year they can get the promotion.
Will you continue playing soccer or doing sports?
I will try to make time from wherever I am because I like football and sports and I will try to continue doing something. I will try to find some time to continue practicing sports.
