MADRID, 28 Ago. (EUROPA PRESS) –
Irish cyclist Eddie Dunbar (Team AlUla Jayco) won this Wednesday the eleventh stage of La Vuelta 2024, which starts and finishes at the Cortizo Padrón Technological Campus over 166.5 kilometers, while Australian Ben O’Connor (Decahtlon-AG2R La Mondiale Team) remains the leader of the general classification for another day, although he lost 37 seconds to his rivals.
The Irishman took the win thanks to an attack with 500 metres to go that surprised all his fellow breakaway riders and allowed him to win solo to claim his first ever victory in a Grand Prix. In the peloton, the overall leader struggled on the final climb, Cruxeiras, and lost 37 seconds to Primoz Roglic (Red Bull Bora Hansgrohe), Enric Mas (Movistar Team) and Mikel Landa (T-REX Soudal QuickStep), who closed the gap on the red jersey.
The Spanish race will host its twelfth stage on Thursday, on a medium-mountain route between Ourense Termal and the Manzaneda Mountain Resort over 137.5 kilometres, which will end in a first-category mountain pass that will offer a new duel between the favourites for the final victory in the general classification.
