Iñigo Lekue renews with Athletic Club until 2025

MADRID, 23 Abr. (EUROPA PRESS) –

Athletic Club announced this Sunday the renewal of Iñigo Lekue until 2025, who came to Lezama in 2012 from the junior Danok Bat, to look forward to the decade as a ‘lion’.

“Iñigo Lekue and Athletic Club have reached an agreement to extend the contract that expired on June 30 for two more seasons, until 2025,” the Basque club announced in an official statement.

The 29-year-old from Bilbao has accumulated 207 appearances in the first team, 50 of them between the last two seasons, which have not been more due to his last injury suffered in the match against Rayo Vallecano, from which he is recovering.

Lekue, one of the captains of the squad, made his Athletic Club debut under the orders of its current coach, Ernesto Valverde, in the first leg of the Super Cup that the lions won against FC Barcelona in 2015.

“In the line drawn by the Board of Directors for new contracts, Lekue’s relationship has a salary structure with a variable component by objectives,” the statement added.

“Continuing in the club of my life is everything. The club with which I have grown up since I was little, a member since I can remember and being able to celebrate a decade playing and wearing the Athletic shirt is a source of happiness and pride for me and the people who love me”, said Lekue himself in statements to the club’s media.
