Impressive lesson in courage from David Bisbal’s brother from his wheelchair: “I am happy”

It is false that José María, after his mysterious disappearance last April, has recovered his life normally, as was published in some media. It is also not true that he was completely well. The tragedy of what happened to José María Bisval has nothing to do with what was said on his day. The older brother of the Almeria singer He suffered a spinal cord injury almost six months ago.

The good news is that with his bravery and courage, with the help and affection of his family, his wife Lupe, and the staff of the Toledo Paraplegic Hospital, he now confesses himself happy.

“I have recently been discharged from this magnificent hospital where I have been admitted for almost five months due to a spinal cord injury,” says José María Bisbal, David Bisbal’s older brother, to explain the drama he has had to live through. But it has a happy ending.

For that reason had to be admitted to the National Hospital for Paraplegics of Toledo, where he has spent the last five months. Currently he has recovered to a good extent but moves around in a wheelchair. “You can live like this, in fact, I am living like this and I am completely self-sufficient, I don’t need help from anyone,” says José María.

David Bisbal lives with the pain of seeing how his father’s memories are being erased. But we knew nothing about the other problem that the most famous of triumphs entails: the brave struggle of his brother to learn to live in a totally different way. A life adapted to a wheelchair that not everyone accepts and overcomes. Luckily, Josemi Bisbal has overcome this first challenge of deciding to fight and learning to accept his new situation. “I arrived with quite severe depression, because this injury is difficult to accept. But once accepted and assimilated, I decided to move forward! I am very happy and eager to enjoy life,” says the artist’s brother.

In an impressive lesson in courage, José María Bisbal repeats his gratitude to the National Hospital for Paraplegics of Toledo: “Everyone told me in Almería that I was going to the best hospital of this type in Spain and perhaps in Europe, but I think that not even the professionals who told me this knew what this hospital really means and what it offers to patients with spinal cord injury,” he says, showing his full gratitude to the center’s professionals.

“I have been able to see many people who have entered without moving their legs or arms and yet they have left walking, some with crutches, others with a walker and even without any of these tools. In my case, who is in a wheelchair, they have taught me to live with it, because it is not only about the daily rehabilitation of your injury, but they teach you how to dressing yourself, going from the chair to the bed and vice versa, getting on and off stretchers, getting on and off the car”.

“They teach you to go to the bathroom alone, to shower alone, to get out of the chair, to get on it, to go up and down sidewalks, to go down steps. You can do painting or memory workshops, different wheelchair sports like table tennis , basketball, badminton. That is, they teach you to live like this and to face the reality that exists outside the hospital.”

To his wife, Lupe: Without my wife’s great help I don’t know what would have happened.”

But José María does not want to forget his wife, Lupe, who, as he assures, has not separated from him. He owes everything to her. If it had not been for her, it is likely that he would not have made it through: “Without her great help during the first months of Lupe, my wife, I don’t know what would have happened,” he says gratefully.

Now José María lives a life adapted to two wheels, but being aware that he has no barriers and that he is capable of doing whatever he sets his mind to. He can be seen riding an adapted bicycle and even participating in popular races. His life in Roquetas de Mar continues.

“You can live like this”

“You can live like this, in fact I am living like this and I am completely self-sufficient, I don’t need help from anyone, so I am very happy and eager to enjoy life,” he says excitedly. “Without the great help during the first months from Lupe, my wife, I don’t know what would have happened, since I arrived with quite severe depression, because this injury is difficult to accept, but once accepted and assimilated, I decided to move forward. !!!”, he comments.
