Immobile keeps Lazio in contention

A goal by Ciro Immobile at game time gave Lazio a hard-fought 1-0 win this Sunday against Cagliari, allowing Simone Inzaghi's men to add their sixth consecutive win and reach fourth place in Serie A , tied with Roma.

Lazio, who will face Bayern Munich in the knockout stages of the Champions League, had to suffer to break Cagliari's defensive wall, but managed to take all three points and beat Naples and Atalanta in the standings to give a important step in the fight for a place in the next European Cup.

The one at the Olympic Stadium was a difficult, tense and tactical match, against a Cagliari who gave everything in the attempt to cut a thirteen-match-game streak without knowing victory.

The last triumph of Eusebio Di Francesco's team, in which Uruguayans Diego Godín and Nahitan Nández started and the Argentine Giovanni Simeone played the last quarter of an hour, dates back to November 7.

Immobile, with his nineteenth goal of the year, overtook Lazio at game time and the Spanish goalkeeper Pepe Reina, who reached 600 games in his career in the league championships this Sunday, shielded the victory with several worthwhile interventions.

Lazio placed fourth, tied with Roma, nine points behind leaders Milan, who beat Crotone hours earlier with a brace from Swede Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
