Illusion in easy terms, by Josep Maria Artells

One good news and one bad. The former galactic singer-songwriter Left over of topics like ‘Any night can sunrise‘ has been nominated for the Gold Medal for Cultural Merit in Barcelona, just a few days after Towthe Muñoz brothers, the rumberos and pop-rock musicians from San Ildefonsoreceived the controversial Saint George’s Cross after years of being neglected, to put it mildly; and the bad news is that there are rumors that sitting on a terrace in the city will be timed like car parks.

Barcelona celebrates these days the 30th anniversary of the 1992 Games. This Thursday a low-intensity institutional ceremony was held, nothing to do with the program of higher level events of the 25th birthday. Five years ago a website was created in this regard and the 22 sports facilities were dressed up with special signage. The municipal act featured routine speeches and the failed project buzzed through the heads of the attendees in row zero. Barcelona-Pyrenees disintegrated by Javier Lamban. Nostalgic speeches were not lacking to launch again in 2030 to the Olympic ring.

The Barçawhich tomorrow will present Lewandowski in the Classic Las Vegas, already plays its summer friendlies with the kits that symbolize the evolution of the city in 1992 and the effort to make itself known in the world. Two months earlier, in WembleyBarça had also knocked down its walls and ghosts.

This is a year dedicated to volunteers, the soul of some Games designed to serve the city. The friendly face of Barcelona was not in the institutions, nor in the boxes, nor in the halls of Pedralbes nor in posh restaurants. ‘Ara o mai’, she used to say Pascal Maragall to make up for lost time and make the Olympic opportunity a popular and street project, arising from the squares where flags and banners of the Recognize. A project that was not directed from the institutions or the elites of the time.

70,000 men and women applied and 35,000 people of all ages and professions were chosen for the Games. They had the function of being the guides and ushers of visitors, VIPs, athletes, “cois” and dignitaries of the great theater that the city became from July 25 to August 9. Those volunteers dressed in pristine white, white sneakers and on their chest they wore the logo of Joseph Maria Trias. They did not act in a crowd as had been studied with the Seoul ’88 volunteers.

They were seen at all the nerve centers of the city: sports facilities, hotels, athletes’ villages, judges, hospitals, car parks, stations, leisure points; They had received specific and detailed training for months according to their professions or hobbies on the assigned task.

The volunteers sacrificed their vacations to offer the best reception and project an efficient image of the organization of the event. Personally, they had internalized that the world must receive the message of a Barcelona hospitable, creative and civic.

After the success of the Games they refused to disappear and created ‘2000 volunteers‘ with the aim of collaborating in sporting events and citizens. Today they participate in the organization of the Race of La Mercèthe Barcelona Marathon and in humanitarian actions such as helping vulnerable people affected by the pandemic.

The Barça has not overlooked the opportunity to share that civic explosion of ’92. Under the concept ‘The flame is still alive’, it has included in the design of the uniforms the spirit of redefinition with which Barcelona greeted the world, an idea that connects with the impulse that tries to give John Laporta to the delicate economic situation of the club. “Barcelona was built respecting its essence and the Barça faces an era faithful to its origins: farmhousestyle of play and young talent”, said the president.

Lewandowski will have a high debut this morning against Real Madrid. The signing of ‘Lewy‘ has caused a great illusion among Barcelona fans. An expectant and contagious illusion whose price is a high mortgage to be repaid in comfortable installments with unknown interests. The club that was once the richest in the world is today in memory. The banner alluding to Real Madrid keep on squeezing, now on Las Vegas, with a fair slogan. Second parts…
