Iga Swiatek makes a sweeping start to the WTA Finals

MADRID, 2 Nov. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Polish tennis player Iga Swiatek began her run in the WTA Finals on Tuesday in an overwhelming way, the event that brings together the eight best of the 2022 season in the American town of Fort Worth, after beating the Russian Daria Kasatkina by 6- 2, 6-3.

The number one in the world is surely the rival to beat in the ‘teacher tournament’ and in her debut she barely gave her rival, eighth in the ranking and who lost her fifth consecutive match this year against the Central European, all of them without being able to to win a set.

The current winner of Roland Garros and the US Open was very firm with her service, which she did not lose throughout the duel and with which she only gave up three break balls, two of them just after breaking Kasatkina’s first serve.

The Russian tennis player, eight in the WTA world ranking, had no more options than the rest and lost the first set giving her service, which further strengthened a Swiatek who started the second strongly and with another ‘break’ that put 3-0. Kasatkina tried to stay alive, but she didn’t capitalize on her only chance in the second set and the Pole had no further trouble scoring her first win of the event.
