MADRID, 5 May. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Polish tennis player Iga Swiatek and the Belarusian Aryna Sabalenka will meet in the final of the Mutua Madrid Open, in the WTA 1,000 category, after beating the Russian Veronika Kudermetova (6-1, 6-1) and the Greek Maria in the semifinals this Thursday Sakkari (6-4, 6-1).
The number one and number two in the world will serve a stellar final in the Caja Mágica on Saturday. Both met two weeks ago in the final in Stuttgart, with a victory for the Pole, who put a 5-2 in favor in direct duels, with the 13th title of her career and the second of 2023 after Doha.
After midnight, Swiatek sealed his pass to the final at the expense of a Kudermetova who he already beat this season precisely in Doha. The Pole passed over the Russian, aggressive to the rest to make the initial 6-1. The script was the same in the second act, with an intractable number one in Manolo Santana.
Meanwhile, Sabalenka, champion in 2021, returned to the final match in the Spanish capital, her fifth final of the season and in search of her third title of 2023, at the expense of Sakkari. The Greek failed again at the gates of a grand final, while the Belarusian will want revenge against Swiatek, in search of her fifth WTA 1,000, in her sixth final, and her 13th title of record.
