“If we win this Cup, it is both ours and those of last year”

Iker Muniain has been interviewed on Athletic's own official website. The rojiblanco captain, who already has experience in several Cup and Super Cup finals, is aware of the importance of both the match against Real on April 3 and the 17 against Barça. Regarding the first of them, the Navarrese takes into account the previous coaching staff (Garitano, Ferreira and Iribarren) and his former teammates (Aduriz, San José, Beñat, Córdoba, Larrazabal and Guruzeta, among others).

“We do not forget them, we have them very present. They helped us to reach this final, after a career in the Cup last year that was very passionate, that we fought a lot, that we recovered from any setback and we always managed to move forward. Obviously, if we get the title it's both theirs and ours. We feel very close to them and hopefully we can also achieve it for them ”, says Muniain.

The Athletic captain, who dreams of lifting the Cup 37 years after the last rojiblanco title in this tournament, also has another message very clear: “We will do everything possible to bring this victory to the fans”. The Navarrese makes it clear that “the team is experiencing all this with great enthusiasm and also with tranquility. Feeling all the support that people offer from their homes, when you go down the street, with messages… but at the same time isolating themselves and focusing on working, on making adjustments that allow us to win that important game ”.

Muniain acknowledges that “Of course we are going to miss our fans in Seville, as we have been doing all this time in San Mamés and even more so now, with the desire to enjoy a night like the one we can experience in a final, in a derby ”.
