Schalke 04's new signing, Bosnian Vedad Ibisevic, has pledged to donate his entire season salary to charitable causes and will play for incentives, as explained by the player after his presentation as a new footballer of the 'miners'.
Ibisevic, 36, agreed to a one-year contract with Schalke on Thursday – after arriving as a free agent after leaving Hertha – and explained his decision in a video posted on the club's home page. “The amounts that are circulating are false”he said about speculation about his salary. “Schalke are in a difficult situation. I wanted to play in the Bundesliga again. That is why we have agreed: I will not have a basic salary”, he pointed.
Legally, Schalke must pay Ibisievic for work reasons, but the player has promised to donate his income to different social causes. “I will donate what I receive”said the Bosnian forward. “I only play for bonuses. This is a typical contract based on my performances. Schalke is Schalke, a great club. The mere opportunity to play for Schalke was sufficient incentive,” said veteran Ibisevic.
