Danny Drinkwater (32 years old) wants to start a new stage after the ordeal he has lived in the Chelsea. “I have a young son. He is my priority…Why are you telling me this one hour before the market closes?? I need time”. Chelsea offered him to go to foreign teams, but he decided to stay until January.
Drinkwater thinks he has lost his best football years. “Yes, you feel like you’ve wasted those five years… If I’d stayed at Leicester, if I’d been injured, if they’d treated me better… it’s all ‘what if’.”
To this situation was added a bad personal moment. The press questioned his professionalism and accused him of having an easy life. “That was not true (…) living life? “I suffer from mental health problems. My grandfather died, my father was diagnosed with leukemia, and I lost my dog. I started driving under the influence of alcohol. It was not me. I made a huge mistake. In addition, I was also fighting for my son (…) I was lost, ”says Drinkwater. “When football is going well, everything else seems easier, but when it’s not going well, everything becomes heavier,” he says.
The Englishman has regained his confidence at Reading and is now looking for a new destination to relaunch his sports career. He feels like it. “i love to win. There are options. It’s just about making the decision.”
