Hugo González, to the semifinals of 200 styles in the World Cup

MADRID, 21 Jun. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Spanish swimmer Hugo González has qualified this Tuesday for the semifinals of 200 styles of the World Swimming Championships held in Budapest, after finishing in 16th place, the last place to fight this afternoon for a place in the final.

González was the 16th best swimmer of the event by seven hundredths (1.59.53), taking last place in the semifinal of the 200 individual styles of these FINA Budapest 2022 World Championships, which will be held this afternoon at 7:39 p.m.

The Spaniard swam the penultimate series through lane 5, surpassed by four opponents, but the speed of the last series increased and Hugo González saw how six other swimmers improved their record. Therefore, this afternoon he will be in the semi-final on the outside lane in search of a great comeback to be in the world top 8.

On the second day of the World Cup, González was left without the final of the 100 backstroke, after finishing eleventh in the semifinals overall with 53.50. The Spanish swimmer made a good first 50 meters, but fatigue took its toll after the turn, staying out of the top eight. Thus, this afternoon will be a new opportunity to swim in a final.

Also in the pool, Spaniard Sergio de Celis was 32nd in the 100m freestyle and failed to progress to the semi-finals with his 49.46 seconds. His next test will be the 4×100 medley relay on the last day of the pool, this Saturday, together with Hugo González, Carles Coll and Alberto Lozano.
