The Norwegian golfer Viktor Hovland achieved this Tuesday his mathematical classification for the European team that will compete in the 2023 edition of the Ryder Cup, which will be played on the Italian course of the Marco Simone Golf & Country Club between September 29 and April 1. October.
Hovland joins Spaniard Jon Rahm and Northern Ireland’s Rory McIlroy for now, who clinched their tickets last week, according to world golf ranking points. The world number five will be commanded by European captain Luke Donald as the Ryder returns to Italy for the first time since 1927.
The Norwegian, with six titles to his credit at the age of 25, will represent Europe for the second time at Ryder, after doing so two years ago at Whistling Straights, where he became the first golfer from his country in the famous fight against the USA .
In recent years, Hovland’s game and smile on the field have earned the admiration of the best players in the world, among whom he has established himself with a particularly important regularity in the ‘Grand Slam’.
Two years ago, in the European defeat on American soil, Hovland was the only one along with Rahm who played all five sessions, with zero wins, three losses and two half points added.
