MADRID, 29 Jun. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The honorary president of Bayern Munich, Uli Hoeness, assured this Wednesday that FC Barcelona “can save the effort of making another offer for Lewandowski” after the Germans have rejected the first offer from the Catalans for the Polish striker.
“I don’t know anything about a new offer. But the way things are in Munich, what I’ve heard is that Barcelona should save themselves the effort of making another offer,” Hoeness said during the Neuland sports congress.
“I don’t make the decisions. But Bayern’s statements were clear. They say that Robert should fulfill his contract in Munich. I can’t imagine that there is an amount of money that will make them change their minds,” Hoeness added.
According to various media, FC Barcelona increased its offer for Lewandowski to 40 million euros, plus 5 million euros in variables. Lewandowski’s contract runs until June 30, 2023, but the striker has stated on several occasions that he wants to leave the Bavarian club before the end of the year.
However, club workers have ruled out a possible transfer so far. When asked, Hoeness declined to comment on the player’s behavior, which could possibly try to force a possible exit.
“Bayern have not made any statement about it, and neither will I,” he said, but added that he “cannot imagine” Lewandowski pushing for a move to another club this summer.
