BERLIN, March 13. (dpa/EP) –
Hertha Berlin has dismissed coach Tayfun Korkut this Sunday, after just over three months in charge, in response to the five-game losing streak that has taken the team to the Bundesliga relegation zone.
“After an in-depth analysis of the current sporting situation, Hertha BSC has relieved Tayfun Korkut and (his assistant) Ilija Aracic of their duties with immediate effect. A successor will be announced in due course,” Hertha said on Sunday.
The Berliners lost on Saturday in their visit to Borussia Mönchengladbach (2-0) and extended their streak without a win in the Bundesliga to nine games. They are penultimate, below Stuttgart, in the promotion position with equal points but better goal difference.
Korkut, 47, was appointed at the end of November as Pal Dardai’s successor but managed to win only two league games in charge and suffered a German Cup defeat by capital rivals Union Berlin.
