As part of the Qatari preparations for the 2022 World Cup was inaugurated the Sabah Al Ahmed axis bridge in the city of Doha. Thus, traffic circulation during the event is facilitated in the best way, since it will allow to reach six of the World Cup stadiums: Al Thumama, Al Januob, Al Khalifa International, Education City and Ras Abu Abuod.
This project is one of the largest road infrastructure in Qatar, so it consists of vehicular bridges, crossings and tunnels, in addition to the role it plays in improving traffic flow and will then serve many other transport sectors such as the Hamad International airport and the metro network for the integration that is adjusted with other main roads.
In this sense, regarding the inauguration of this axis bridge that deals with “the lungs of Doha”. Regarding transit, Hassan Al Thawadi, Secretary General of the Organization and Legacy Committee and responsible for managing the projects of FIFA Qatar 2022, stressed that Sabah Al Ahmed is one of the vital roads that facilitate the transit of World Cup fans and that it will reduce the time to reach six World Cup stadiums.
“We congratulate ourselves on the inauguration of the Sabah Al Ahmed Axis Bridge, which marks a step forward in the preparations for the Qatar World Cup 2022, also for the completion of infrastructure projects and roads for the World Cup, especially by the projects included in the transportation plans, “he assures.
Al Thawadi added: “Given the qualitative and modern road network recently established in Qatar in recent years it contributes to changing the concept of moving between stadiums. As well as connecting them, it promises to provide a seamless and fun experience for fans. and for footballers during the Qatar 2022 World Cup, as well as to facilitate travel between residences, fields, and attractions in the state of Qatar, which gives everyone the opportunity to enjoy close distances. “
The distance from Sabah Al Ahmed is 25 kilometers, which marks a central bridge for Doha, as it provides an alternative and parallel highway, serving thousands of passengers between the south and north of Doha on a daily basis.
The axis bridge consists of 32 vehicular, four-way bridges, in addition to 12 tunnels. and also includes the first suspension bridge in Qatar with distance of 1,200 metersas well as the longest bridge in Qatar at 2.6 in distance.
