The candidate for the general elections on 23-J for the Popular Party, Alberto Núñez Feijóohas generated a strong controversy on social networks for a comment about her opponent, the leader of Sumar, Yolanda Diaz, and the statistics of the Ministry of Labor that he directs.
“The truth is the made-up employment data… Now, looking at the vice president who has the job, she knows a lot about makeup, there is no doubt,” said the former president of the Xunta de Galicia.
His “macho” statements, as Sumar’s spokeswoman for feminism has described them, Elizabeth Duvalhave not gone unnoticed and Feijóo is receiving a barrage of criticism on Twitter, especially from members of opposition political parties.
It is unfortunate that Mr. Feijóo attacks @Yolanda_Diaz_ for their physical appearance and “makeup”. But it is a symptom of something bigger: they are nervous because we are going to win the elections. That is why he resorts to cowardice and machismo: shame. pic.twitter.com/iZn48opMP7

“It is a really offensive comment towards Mrs. Yolanda Díaz because she is macho. Speaking of makeup, she wanted to make a joke, but I think you have to be careful with these types of comments because they are hurtful,” criticized the Minister of Finance, Maria Jesus Montero.

“Lying is no longer enough for him, now he also has to offend. But is there something with which Feijóo is capable of not showing himself retrograde? Now the great moderate thinks it is wrong for a woman to put on makeup, and for that reason he lashes out at Yolanda Díaz,” lamented the PSOE Organization Secretary, Santos Cerdan. Also the leader of Más País and number four of Sumar’s candidacy for Madrid, Íñigo Errejón, reacted in networks: “There are nerves (and machismo) around here,” he expressed.

The aforementioned, Yolanda Díaz, also responded to Feijóo with a tweet: “Mr. Feijóo, I’m glad you feel better. I will gladly discuss with you tomorrow the employment data and your economic project for Spain. Wherever and whenever you want.”
