MADRID, 7 Jun. (EUROPA PRESS) –
Tottenham striker Harry Kane left the Allianz Arena frozen with a penalty goal two minutes from the end of the duel against Germany (1-1), played at the Munich stadium and corresponding to the second day of the 2022 League of Nations- 23, while Italy regained victory at the cost of a willing Hungary.
Harry Kane completely deceived Manuel Neuer in the great opportunity of the English in their duel against the Germans. The domain was local, the chances, too, but the perseverance of Gareth Southgate’s team found oil -with some luck- in an action that transformed the ‘spurs’ battering ram.
His 50th goal for the England team that brings him closer to Wayne Rooney and also the possibility of not falling completely out of the top positions. The draw is the first point for the British, who will play the next day against Italy at the Molineux Stadium.
Before, Germany had taken advantage of the doubts in defense of the English box – relieved on the counter thanks to Jack Grealish – and went ahead on the scoreboard with a powerful shot from Jonas Hofmann, who received a great inside pass from Joshua Kimmich, to leave without resources to Jordan Pickford, protagonist until then with good stops.
However, Kane appeared in the final minutes to frustrate a Germany that does not know the victory in this Nations League. Two draws in two games place it in third position. The group is led by Italy, who did add all three points in a duel played at the Dino Manuzzi Stadium in Cesena.
For its part, the Italian team retaliated for its recent setbacks, some resounding like that of Argentina in the ‘Finalissima’, and beat Hungary (2-1) in a less even match than the score says. The ‘azzurros’ had a great first half and even deserved better luck before heading down the locker room tunnel.
Roberto Mancini’s team took advantage of the final quarter of an hour to make it 2-0 in the hands of Nicolò Barella and Lorenzo Pellegrini, which made the home team relax. Hungary, which came to the event highly motivated after beating England on the first day, gave more trouble than expected in the final stretch.
Gianluca Mancini, an own goal, gave life to the Hungarians but the score did not move and Italy added its first victory in the League of Nations. A triumph that will not serve -however- to forget the enormous disappointment of having been left out of the World Cup in Qatar.
