Ángel Haro, president of Real Betis, has revealed during the presentation of Juan Miranda that the club's income will drop from 200 million (110 ordinary and 90 extraordinary) to just over 90 this season due to the Covid crisis, which reduces television and ticketing income by more than 20 million and has reduced income from transfers (extraordinary income) “to just over four million.”
Haro, during the presentation of Juan Miranda, began by welcoming the footballer and his entire family, present at the face-to-face press conference at Benito Villamarín, the first to be held since the Covid 19 global pandemic was declared. “The joy is double because it is a player who has grown up in the house. For this reason, I would like to thank your agent and those around you for making your arrival possible. We receive him with great joy, he is more mature and has the opportunity to show his ability as a footballer at home, so we have to congratulate ourselves that we have it among us ”.
The Betic president then went on to analyze the economic reality of the club, punished like everyone else by the current world crisis. “With Juan this atypical market ends and I would like to influence the economic reality of the club. In the case of Betis we have gone from 200 million in revenue to just over 90 with this budget reduction. With this reality we have tried to maintain the high potential of the squad. The market has been practically non-existent, we have not wanted to under sell because there has been a very low market. We wanted to shore up the defense, the goal and we even won some integers with the arrival of Sanabria and with the players from the quarry.
Our main asset has been the technical team headed by Pellegrini and the sports department. It remains to work hard, effort and humility to be able to return to pre-Covid economic levels. The first step has been taken by 90 percent of the subscribers with their renewal ”.
“We will have to continue taking measures in the medium and long term”
On the salary limit imposed by LaLiga and the possibility of having to reduce the salaries of the players, as proposed by other clubs such as FC Barcelona, in order to comply with it, Angel Haro has explained the following, already at a press conference: “We have scrupulously complied with what LaLiga has allowed us to register, but that does not imply that we do not have to make future movements, the financial year ends on June 30 (2021) and that's when we have to take responsibility and give an account of results, if not positive, very close to positive. Obviously we will have to continue taking measures in the medium and long term, having foreseen that when the sporting year ends we will probably have to make movements and we must be vigilant. We must value continuing with the staff we have with such a significant reduction in income. On the other issue of movements and situations that are taking place (possible salary reduction) we are waiting for there to be sector solutions rather than particular solutions and for Betis to lead nothing. We are attentive to the existence of sectorial solutions and we would join them ”.
Haro supported the work of Antonio Cordón on the transfer policy and the policy of not selling off any player: “The policy has been totally shared. The players are active in the club and no suitable offer has arrived. Apart from the crisis, Betis cannot invest above what it diverts. It is important to value this squad and that we have been able to maintain it ”.
“Beticism is a religion”
The Betic president also appreciated the fact that 45,122 members have already renewed their subscription despite not knowing when the public will be able to return to the stadiums: “Beticismo is a religion, a way of feeling. What can I say about the Betics, that feeds day by day and encourages you to continue working. The objective of the club is to achieve important things. We want the team to focus on the next game. Europe gives you income and visibility for the players but the obsession is to go match by match and that winning is the common denominator of our discourse ”.
