At the shareholders' meeting of Real Betis On December 21, some news will be announced that will affect the composition of the council that will continue to be chaired by Angel Haro, with José Miguel López Catalan Vice-president, as both have sufficient shareholder support and can even expand it with the incorporation of a reference shareholder of the entity to the board.
For months Haro and Catalán, who took the reins of Real Betis after the shareholders' meeting of September 2015, have been holding conversations with some of the main shareholders of the club who are not currently part of the board, cases of Joaquín Caro Ledesma and the family of former president Hugo Galera – who died in 2020 – aimed at joining the current governing body of the club, which will include Ramón Alarcón and María Victoria López, who will remain as general director of the Business Area and the Social Area, respectively , but they will abandon their position as directors, as some shareholders had requested.
The economic situation of the club, as well as the sports, is quite delicate and will require drastic decisions to be able to balance the accounts at the end of this season, such as transfers of important players or lower salaries in the first team, before having to resort to other solutions, which in public limited companies usually go through the capital increase.
Joaquín Caro Ledesma was already part of this Real Betis board of directors, with Haro and Catalán -after acquiring a good package of shares put up for sale after the final departure of the Lopera club-, but he left the same in March 2019 due to discrepancies in the management mode, and he is now holding conversations that could materialize on his return, after having recently acquired another package of shares from former director Manuel Castaño (around 1%), whom he already acquired about 2% in 2019, and consolidate itself as the third reference shareholder of the club, since it currently controls around 7.6% of the share capital.
