Hamilton will change his name to include his mother’s last name

MADRID, 14 Mar. (EUROPA PRESS) –

British driver Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes), seven-time Formula 1 world champion, revealed on Monday that he is in the process of changing his name to include his mother Carmen’s maiden name, Larbalestier, along with Hamilton’s.

Hamilton’s father, Anthony, and his mother, Carmen, separated when he was two years old. Hamilton invited his mother to see him receive his knighthood from Prince Charles at Windsor Castle in December.

“I’m really proud of my family name. My mother’s name is Larbalestier and I’m about to put it in my name. I don’t understand the idea that when people get married, the woman loses her last name, and I want the name of my mother continues along with the name of Hamilton”, explained the pilot, and hopes that the changes take place “soon”. “We’re working on it,” he said.

Hamilton is preparing for his 16th season on the grid and wants to avenge last year’s loss to Dutchman Max Verstappen. After last weekend’s test, he acknowledged that it is possible that Mercedes is behind Red Bull and Ferrari and that his car is not fast enough to fight for victories.

“Bahrain is going to be tough. Hopefully when you get the call tonight from Brackley and Brixworth they have found some tricks and ways to get more out of this car,” said Hamilton, speaking at Dubai Expo 2020 on Monday. “There were a lot of cars that looked fast in testing. Alfa Romeo looked fast, Valtteri -Bottas- looked fast and obviously Red Bull looked ridiculously fast, but we are the better team,” he concluded.
