Girona measures its resistance against a rising Osasuna and with Real Sociedad and Valencia vigilant

MADRID, 8 Mar. (EUROPA PRESS) –

Girona FC will host CA Osasuna this Saturday in a match on matchday 28 and in which Míchel Sánchez’s men will seek to regain their winning ways to take an important step towards the 2024/25 Champions League, while Real Sociedad will visit to an almost hopeless Granada CF and Valencia CF will host Getafe CF with the challenge of winning to remain in the noble zone of LaLiga EA Sports.

Girona and Osasuna will face each other in Montilivi (9:00 p.m.) in a match with local emergencies. The bad form of the Girona team, who have been defeated in three of the last four matchdays, has meant that their second place in the standings is threatened by Barça, who could finish the matchday ahead of them. In addition, Atlético de Madrid and Athletic Club are putting pressure on the Catalan team.

Despite this, Girona remains very reliable whenever it comes to playing in front of its fans. Míchel’s team continues to be one of the best venues in the category, and they have only lost one game so far this season, going 10 consecutive games without losing, achieving victory in eight of them. Furthermore, in their last five victories at Montilivi they have managed to score three or more goals, which has made them the third highest scoring local team in the competition.

In front will be a reborn Osasuna, which aspires to get fully into the fight for European positions. The team led by Jagoba Arrasate is experiencing its best moment of the season, and has added 10 of the last 12 points at stake. Results that have helped the Navarrese team to place themselves with 36 points, just four points behind seventh place, so a victory in Catalonia would put them squarely in the fight for European positions.

Furthermore, in recent events in Montilivi, Osasuna has achieved good results. In fact, the only victory for the locals in the match took place in 2025, while the other three matches ended two in a draw and another with a ‘red’ victory. Added to that is that Arrasate’s team have only lost in one of their last four league outings, against FC Barcelona (1-0).

A match that, on an individual level, will pit two of the best scorers in LaLiga EA Sports: Artem Dovbyk and Ante Budimir. Both are tied at 14 points in third position in the fight for the ‘Pichichi’, although their form is very different. The Ukrainian has gone six consecutive games without scoring, this being his worst streak this season, while the Croatian has scored four goals in the last four games.

In sports, Michel recovers David López, who aims to start in the pivot, although Yangel Herrera does not arrive on time, who will be out for the second consecutive day. In the case of Osasuna, Arrasate will not be able to count on either David García or Kike Barja, both of whom were injured in the match against Deportivo Alavés.

For their part, Valencia and Getafe will open the Saturday round at Mestalla (2:00 p.m.), in a duel in which the ‘ches’ can attack the seventh place of Real Sociedad if they win, while Getafe could take a leap of up to three places if they achieve their second away victory of the season in LaLiga EA Sports.

Rubén Baraja’s men arrive at the match against Getafe with their morale through the roof after managing to score points last day against the leader Real Madrid. A great match that adds to the good work of the Che team in the last six days, in which they have only been defeated twice, which has allowed them to close the gap with the teams in the noble zone to the point of being within five points from sixth place with a game in hand.

In the case of Getafe, José Bordalás’ team has also been a particularly difficult team to beat in recent days, losing only two of its last seven games – against Real Madrid and FC Barcelona – adding nine of the last 21 in Game. However, Mestalla is one of the worst fields for the Madrid team, which has not won in any of its last six visits, falling resoundingly last season (5-1).

In the casualties section, Baraja will have the only loss of Mouctar Diakhaby, who is out for the remainder of the season after the serious injury suffered against Real Madrid, while Bordalás will not be able to count on his most differential player, Borja Mayoral, injured, as well as with Mason Greenwood, sanctioned.

TWO TEAMS IN LOW HOURS

Finally, Granada will host Real Sociedad (6:30 p.m.) at the Nuevo Los Cármenes in a duel between two teams in low hours. On the one hand, the Nasrid team, which has gone seven games without knowing the victory, needs the victory to continue dreaming of a permanence that is becoming further and further away, while the San Sebastian team have suffered in recent weeks eliminations from the Copa del Rey and Champions League, chaining four consecutive defeats and winning only one of their last 10 games.

The Andalusians are second to last in the table, 10 points from safety and need to react with a victory if they do not want to see their chances of salvation slip away definitively. The ‘Cacique’ Medina effect has not worked, adding only seven of 36 possible points, achieving only one victory. Furthermore, on the last day, they showed one of the worst faces so far this season, losing 5-1 to Villarreal at La Cerámica.

For its part, Imanol Alguacil’s team seems to have hit rock bottom in the last two months of competition. Their results and feelings are bad, and they have seen how they have gone from fighting for fourth and fifth place to being immersed in the fight for seventh position which, if Mallorca managed to win the Copa del Rey, might not give them a place. European for the next campaign. A few recent games in which, in addition to the poor aim in front of goal, the loss of defensive solidity has been added, conceding in their last seven games.

In this context, ‘Cacique’ Medina has the readiness of the entire squad to face Real Sociedad, recovering Gerard Gumbau and Jesús Vallejo, while Alguacil will not be able to count on the injured Arsen Zakharyan, Ander Barrenetxea, Carlos Fernández, Aritz Elustondo, Aihen Muñoz and Álvaro Odriozola, finally recovering Take Kubo for the match, with discomfort after the match against Paris Saint-Germain.
