Gino Mäder, hospitalized in Switzerland after a serious fall

MADRID, 16 Jun. (EUROPA PRESS) –

Swiss cyclist Gino Mäder (Bahrain Victorious) remains under observation and examination at the Chur Hospital after a hard fall in the fifth stage of the Tour of Switzerland on Thursday, after which he had to be revived and evacuated by helicopter.

“Gino Mäder veered off the road and into a ravine, where he was quickly attended to by the race doctor. Mäder was found unconscious, resuscitated on the spot and later airlifted to hospital. Our thoughts and prayers are with Gino.” says his team in an official statement.

The Swiss round also showed its concern for the state of health of the local runner, waiting to know the extent of the injuries and the state of Mäder. “The extent of his injuries is not clear,” says the Tour, pending “investigation” of the accident in which the American Magnus Sheffield (INEOS Grenadiers) was also involved. The stage that ended in La Punt was won by the Spanish Juan Ayuso (UAE Team Emirates).
