Gimnástica Segoviana-Sestao River de Copa suspended due to adverse weather conditions

MADRID, 2 Nov. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The match between Gimnástica Segoviana and Sestao River this Thursday, belonging to the first round of the Copa del Rey 2023-2024, has been suspended due to the “current weather conditions”, with the aim of “preserving the safety of the teams, the media and the attending public,” according to a statement from the Castilian-Leonese team.

Thus, the adverse weather conditions that are being experienced on Thursday, with wind gusts exceeding 150 km/h, have caused all parties to decide to suspend the Copa del Rey match that they were due to face, starting at 7:00 p.m. hours in La Albuera, the Gimnástica Segoviana and the Sestao River.

According to the statement from the local club, representatives of Gimnástica Segoviana; the Councilor for Security of the Segovia City Council, Raquel Alonso; representatives of the capital’s fire department; the head of the local police, Vicente Sanz; and a federative delegate from the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF), met this Thursday at the facilities of the Municipal Sports Institute (IMD) to assess the situation.

After the meeting, they concluded that the suspension of the match was best to preserve “the safety of the two teams, the referee trio, the media and of course the fans.” Now it will be the RFEF together with the clubs that will have to set a new date for the meeting.
