Germany became the second semifinalist of the Davis Cup Finals on Tuesday after beating Great Britain 2-1 on Tuesday in Innsbruck (Austria), thanks to their victory in the doubles match.
After Croatia achieved it this Monday, the German team also took their ticket to the Madrid Arena where they will now face the winner of the duel between Sweden and Russia, in what will be their first semifinal of the competition since 2007.
Things did not start well for Michael Kohlmann’s men as Dan Evans rolled over Peter Gojowczyk 6-2, 6-1 in less than an hour, but Jan-Lennard Struff came to the rescue by beating Cameron Norrie, number twelve of the world in three sets by 7-6 (6), 6-3, 2-6 in a match where his rival wasted serve with 5-4 and two set balls in the ‘sudden death’ in the first set.
The tie, as happened on Monday in Turin between Italians and Croats, was decided in a disputed double where Kevin Krawietz and Tim Puetz defeated Joel Salisbury and Neal Skupski by a double 7-6, who wasted four set points in the first ‘ tie-break ‘and a clear 5/0 in the second.
